*LAHORE – Another polio case has been confirmed in Lahore as polio virusdiagnosed in a* *10-year-old child for the first time in history of Punjab.*
The spokesperson confirmed that a 10-year-old child in Lahore’s AllamaIqbal Town has been diagnosed with polio. He also said that this is thesecond case reported in the province this year. Nine cases have beenreported across the country.
“Samples were collected on April 2 and sent to Islamabad for confirmation.The virus belongs to an Outfall Pumping Station in Lahore,” an official atpolio laboratory of the National Institute of Health said.
Efforts to eliminate polio in Pakistan have became complicated in recentyears, as polio workers have faced attacks by militants who say the healthteams are Western spies, or that the vaccines they administer are intendedto sterilise children.
