*ICC Cricket World Cup 2019:* MS Dhoni has been snubbed by ICC over showingArmy insignia in World Cup match, may be penalised too.
MS Dhoni was seen sporting an Army insignia on his gloves during theIndia-South Africa clash in World Cup 2019.
The gesture – a tribute to the Indian Army and especially the PARA SpecialForces – was well appreciated by Indian fans. However, the InternationalCricket Council (ICC) on Thursday asked the BCCI to have the badge removed,saying it is against its regulations.
Claire Furlong, ICC General Manager – Strategic Communications, told PTIthat the apex body has asked the Indian cricket board to have the signremoved. It is against the regulations and we have requested it isremoved,” Furlong said.
India’s next game is against Australia on Sunday.
When asked if Dhoni, who is an Honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the ParachuteRegiment of Territorial Army, could be penalised for the breach of an ICCregulation, she added: “For first breach no, just a request to remove”.
Dhoni’s love for the Indian Army is well known. During the opening WorldCup fixture against South Africa in Southampton on Wednesday, Dhoni’sgloves attracted special attention when the TV cameras zoomed in.’Balidaan’- the regimental dagger insignia of the PARA Special Forces wasembossed on his green wicket-keeping gloves.
