ISLAMABAD: Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation AmbassadorZalmay Khalilzad visited Pakistan on June 2 and held discussions withPakistani leadership on developments in the Afghan peace process.
US Embassy in Islamabad in a statement said Ambassador Khalilzad met PrimeMinister Imran Khan, MFA Additional Secretary Aftab Khokher and Chief ofArmy Staff General Qamar Bajwa.
Ambassador Khalilzad briefed Pakistani officials on the substantialprogress made in talks over the last month and planned next steps.
He noted that the United States continues to be encouraged by the rolePakistan has played to advance the peace process and discussed additionalpositive steps that Pakistan can take and the importance of recent effortsfor improving US-Pakistan relations, the statement added.
Ambassador Khalilzad and Pakistani officials also discussed the benefit ofimproved Pakistan-Afghanistan relations in reaching, implementing, andsustaining a durable peace.
