Pakistan and US discuss Afghanistan peace, regional security

*ISLAMABAD – Pakistan and the United States (US) discussed on Sundaybilateral ties, regional peace and Afghan peace process.*

Led by Special Representative for Afghan Reconciliation Ambassador ZalmayKhalilzad, a US delegation held talks with Pakistani officials at theMinistry of Foreign Affair. Additional Secretary Ministry of ForeignAffairs Aftab Khokhar led the Pakistani side.

During the meeting, issues of mutual interest including bilateral ties,regional peace situation, and Afghan peace process came under discussion.

Additional Secretary Aftab Khokhar said Pakistan will continue playing itsmediatory role in establishment of peace in the region, including Afghanpeace process, as part of the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Pakistan advised all the sides to move towards political resolution of theissue in order to end the decades’ long conflict in the region. AmbassadorKhalilzad appreciated Pakistan’s pivotal role for establishment of enduringpeace in the region.

The US delegation comprises representatives of Defense and Statedepartments while senior officials from ministries of defense and foreignaffairs are attending from the Pakistan side.

Earlier today, US Special Representative for Afghanistan ReconciliationZalmay Khalilzad has arrived in Pakistan to hold meetings with Pakistanleadership as part of effort to facilitate a peace process that ends theconflict in Afghanistan.
