*ISLAMABAD: The government on Thursday removed Finance Secretary YounusDhaga from his post.*
The Cabinet Division secretary, Naveed Kamran Baloch, has been named newfinance secretary.
It is noteworthy that Younus Dhaga played a key role in the government’snegotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a $6 billionbailout package and remained part of the delegation which met the FinancialAction Task Force (FATF) team in China last week.
Prime Minister Imran Khan had last month carried out a major reshuffle inthe country’s economic team.
Asad Umar, PTI MNA from Islamabad, stepped down as the country’s financeminister after PM Imran asked him to take the portfolio of petroleum, whichhe declined and opted to quit the federal cabinet.
Subsequently, the government named Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, a former World Bankofficial who served as finance minister from 2010-2013, as adviser onfinance, replacing Umar.
Later, Prime Minister Imran Khan appointed Syed Shabbar Zaidi, a charteredaccountant by profession, as Chairman Federal Board of Revenue and an IMFofficial Reza Baqir as Governor State Bank of Pakistan.
