PM Imran Khan gives important directions over electronic and print media

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan has emphasized the crucial role ofindependent and responsible journalism in strengthening of democracy.

He was chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Thursday in whichdetailed deliberations were held on outstanding dues and payments of printand electronic media.

The Prime Minister said the government firmly believes in constitutionaland basic right of freedom of expression.

Imran Khan said he is cognizant of the issues being faced by media personsand their resolution is top priority of the government.

The Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Information to hold immediateconsultations with PBA and APNS regarding payment of outstanding dues.

He directed the Ministry to take practical steps for the release ofoutstanding amounts to media persons before Eid. In this regard, the PrimeMinister asked the Special Assistant on Information and BroadcastingFirdous Ashiq Awan to personally supervise this process.

Imran Khan also directed Ministry of Information to highlight the reformsagenda of the government through media.
