ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday ruled that reports ofthe Sharif Medical City with regard to health condition of former primeminister Nawaz Sharif were vague, while the foreign doctors were also notable to tell the court why Nawaz’s treatment was not possible in Pakistan.
The IHC on Friday issued its detailed order citing reason for its June 20rejection of the three-time former prime minister’s plea to grant him bailin view of his deteriorating health condition. Nawaz has been serving aseven-year jail term since his December 2018 conviction in Al-Aziziacorruption case.
In its seven-page detailed verdict, the court maintained that opinion ofprivate doctors could not be regarded as final. It said that all medicalfacilities were being provided to Nawaz at Kot Lakhpat Jail and hence thebail could not be granted on medical grounds.
The order said that the former premier never requested the jailsuperintendent or the court to constitute any medical board to examine hisdisease. In his reply submitted to the IHC, the jail superintendent saidthat Nawaz’s life was not in danger.
According to prison rules, the jail superintendent has the authority toconstitute a medical board in view of the health condition of a prisoner.“Nawaz Sharif’s request for bail on medical ground is not on merit andhence is being rejected,” said the order.
