ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has rejected the report issued by the US Departmentof State’s Office on “Religious Freedom”, said a statement issued by theMinistry of Foreign Affairs.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the report’s segment on Pakistan is acompendium of unsubstantiated and biased assertions, said the press release.
The Ministry said that we do not support such national reports makingobservations on the internal affairs of sovereign States.
It said Pakistan has always played a positive role and engaged theinternational community including the United States with a view to havebetter and mutual understanding of the issue of religious freedoms, whichare under stress around the world.
It said Pakistan is of the view that all countries are obliged to promotereligious harmony and have a duty to protect their citizens in accordancewith national laws and international norms.
The Ministry said a glaring discriminatory aspect of the report is that ithas ignored the systematic persecution of minorities, particularly Muslims,in India, which are subjected to alien domination and foreign occupationsuch as in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
