ISLAMABAD – Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar showered praise onhis teammates after the national side beat New Zealand in their must winICC World Cup 2019 encounter on Wednesday.
The speedster however, warned his side to stay away from complacency as theteam still has to face dangerous opponents in the upcoming matches.
“There are days where Pakistan play very good cricket but I still believethat we don’t need to get complacent, because one important match stillawaits Pakistan and that is against Bangladesh. This match can be boon andbane for Pakistan, as it is a very dangerous match for the team,” saidAkhtar.
The fast bowler further compared Pakistan’s run at the ongoing World Cup totheir 1992 World Cup campaign. “Never ever corner Pakistan team, becausewhen they are cornered they come and strike you down… spooky but identicalsituation like the 1992 World Cup.”
The ‘Rawalpindi Express’ then directed towards the Indian cricket team,saying that India should help pave way for Pakistan into the semis bybeating England in their upcoming match. “India you would need to help usnow by beating England, and then we would join you into the semis bywinning our remaining matches and beat you in the semifinals.”
With seven points in seven matches and two games to go, Pakistan would nextface neighboring Afghanistan on Saturday June 29, at Leeds, Headingly.
