*ISLAMABAD: *Prime Minister Imran Khan may elevate Federal Board of Revenue(FBR) Chairman Shabbar Zaidi as his special assistant on revenue aimed atgiving him more autonomy in policy matters.
Zaidi may be given the status of minister of state for revenue – a positionthat fell vacant this week after the prime minister appointed Hammad Azharas Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Division.
In place of Zaidi, the government may once again appoint FBR chairman fromwithin the tax services, said the sources. Javed Ghani – a grade 22 officerof the Customs Group – was among front runners for the post, they added.
The prime minister on Friday again discussed the issue of Zaidi’sappointment as his special assistant, another source told The ExpressTribune. Final decision would be taken very soon, he added.
