ISLAMABAD – The Pakistani pacer Wahab Riaz will continue to train with thenational team despite a fractured finger, a team official confirmed onMonday.
Raza Kitchlew, Pakistan cricket team’s media manager, confirmed that WahabRiaz has asked to attend the team’s training sessions where the nationalteam is preparing for the match against Bangladesh.
Speaking to media members in England, Raza said:
His injury is painful but Wahab has opted to continue training as he wantsto play against Bangladesh. It’s a must-win game for us and the team willneed his experience.
The injury was picked up by Wahab during a fielding training session atHeadingley on Tuesday. However, Pakistan management decided to play himagainst Afghanistan as his bowling hand was completely fine.
Wahab proved his worth in the match against Afghanistan where hecontributed with the ball and especially bat, which helped Pakistan reachthe target.
He scored 15 crucial runs from 9 balls which included 1 four and 1 maximumagainst Rashid Khan, who was proving to be unplayable for Pakistani batsmen.
Pakistan now faces a daunting task of a must-win against Bangladesh if theMen in Green are to stand any chance of qualification to the semifinals ofthe ICC World Cup 2019.
The match between Pakistan and Bangladesh will be played at Lord’s on 5thJuly.
