Pakistan makes an appeal to UN Chief for urgent donors conference

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif Sharif has urged the United Nations SecretaryGeneral to urgently call a donors conferencelink to generate funds forrehabilitation of flood-ravaged people of Pakistan, reported 24NewsHD TVchannel on Sunday.

The prime minister was chairing a meeting via video link of his cabinetministers and officials for an update on the floodlink situation in Pakistan.

Shehbaz link Sharif told the participantssaid the initial estimate of losses to Pakistan’s economylink a result of the three-monthflooding disaster was $30 billion, adding that he had requested UNSecretary-General Antonio Guterres to urgently hold a donors’ conference.

The prime minister told the meeting that he, during the recent session ofthe United Nations General Assembly, had held meetings with importantleaders of the world including Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General ofthe United Nations.

He said that during his meetings with the world leaders, he had informedthem about the disaster caused by floods in Pakistan and also the reliefoperations and rehabilitative efforts being carried out by the government.

He also informed the meeting about the telephonic conversation with SaudiCrown Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.
