LONDON – Sikh MP Tanmanjeet Singh blasts Britain PM Boris Johnson overremarks against Muslim women.
United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson got a severe lashing from acolleague for failing to curb racism.
Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, a member of Parliament from Slough, gave a piece ofhis mind to Johnson over racist remarks the latter had made in a 2018newspaper column.
Dhesi is the first turbaned Sikh MP elected to the UK House of Commons.
“If I decide to wear a turban, or if someone decides to wear a cross or ahijab, it doesn’t mean that it is an open season for people in this Houseto make derogatory and divisive remarks,” said Dhesi as he began his speech.
Dhesi was slamming remarks Boris Johnson had made in a 2018 Daily Telegraphcolumn. The British prime minister had said that Muslim women who wearburqas look like “letterboxes and bank robbers”.
