ISLAMABAD – Shahid Afridi has congratulated Lasith Malinga for setting anew wicket-taking record in T20 cricket.
Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga on Sunday became the highest wicket-takerin the T20I cricket, surpassing Pakistan’s all-rounder Shahid Afridi.
Taking on Twitter, Shahid Afridi said, “Congrats @Lasith99Malinga onbecoming the highest wicket taker in my format. Good luck on becoming thefirst to have 100 wickets under your belt, well deserved.”

Malinga equalled Afridi’s record of 98 wickets with a trademark in-swingingyorker to bowl the dangerous Kiwi opener Colin Munro in the first over ofNew Zealand’s innings, and later took the crucial wicket of in-form Colinde Grandhomme, who was well set and batting on 44, with another stunningyorker to reach 99 wickets and become the highest T20I wicket-taker.
The previous record-holder Afridi played 99 matches for his 98 T20Iwickets, while Malinga’s 99th wicket came in only his 74th game.
