ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has deferred itsjudgement regarding a plea submitted by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)which challenged the appointment of Maryam Nawaz as Pakistan Muslim League– Nawaz (PML-N) vice-presidents.
The petition has been heard by a three-member bench headed by the ChiefElection Commissioner Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan. During the hearing today,the ECP bench said that the judgement will now be announced on September 3,local media reported. On August 1, the commission had reserved its verdictand said that it will announce it today.
On May 9, PTI lawmakers Barrister Malika Bukhari, Farrukh Habib, KanwalShauzab and Javeria Zafar had challenged Maryam’s appointment, saying thather appointment as a PML-N vice-president is in contradiction with theconstitution and law of the land.
