A diplomtic setback for India on the international front

ISLAMABAD – Russian envoy to the United Nations (UN) Dmitry Polyanskiy hassaid his country does not object to the meeting called by Pakistan todiscuss India’s move to revoke the special status of occupied Kashmir.

“Moscow doesn’t object to holding such a meeting, but the matter should bediscussed behind closed doors,” Polyanskiy saidlink speaking to reporters.

The UN Security Council (UNSC) on Wednesday, granted Pakistan’s request todiscuss India’s decision to revoke the special status of occupied Kashmiron Friday.

Meanwhile, the Russian foreign ministry in a statement emphasised the needto de-escalate the Pakistan-India tensions on the disputed valley, statingthat there is no alternative to political and diplomatic means to resolvethe disputes.

“There is no alternative to resolve differences between Pakistan and Indiaaccept bilaterally through political and diplomatic means,” the statementsaid.

The statement came after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke withForeign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi over the phone.
