Pakistan government in collaboration with Chinese tech giant Huawei launches big e-governance project

ISLAMABAD – In its effort to transform the digital landscape of Pakistan,the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) hasagreed to take benefit from the expertise of Chinese tech giant Huawei forimprovement of the National Information and Communication Technologies(ICT) plan and e-governance initiatives.

The recent development has been made on the directions of the FederalMinister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Khalid MaqboolSiddiqui and Federal Secretary Ministry of IT Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui. In arecently held meeting with the top management of Huawei, the officialsdiscussed the procedure with Chinese tech titan to appraise the currentstatus of ICT and technology in Pakistan for a digital transformation planfor Pakistan, a press release linknoted.

Furthermore, both parties discussed matters related to ICT and eGovernanceduring the meeting. The meeting was attended by several key officials of ITMinistry. The Huawei’s top executive briefed the Federal Secretary Ministryof IT about their services in the field of ICT and e-governance. As thepress statement noted;

*“It was agreed in the meeting that the Ministry of IT will jointly workwith Huawei for the enhancement of the national ICT plan and e-governanceinitiatives to improve governance and public service delivery in Pakistan.”*

This is not the first time Huawei is looking forward to make contributionsin the country’s ICT sector, Huawei being the leading telecom provider inthe world and a leading ICT infrastructure development company hadpreviously held Pakistan in several ICT initiatives. With its ICTcompetition in Pakistanlink,Huawei invites colleges and universities in Pakistan to participate in theICT competition to promote the ICT industry technology certification anddevelop the local ICT industry talent and ecosystem.

It is worth mentioning here that since its inception in Pakistan in 1988,Huawei has maintained robust growth and contributed to Pakistan’s overallICT industry development. As of now, the company employs about 1,600 peoplein the country and among these, 91% are Pakistani nationals.
