ISLAMABAD – One of the greatest batsmen of all-time Hashim Amla on Thursdayhas taken retirement from international cricket with an immediate effect.
Amla, who last represented South Africa in World Cup 2019, was expected todecide his future. He will continue playing domestic cricket and also isavailable for Mzansi Super League.
The 31-years-old cricketer made his Test debut in 2004 against India inKolkata and since then he had played 124 Tests and had scored 9282 runs atan average of 46.64 including 28 centuries and 41 half-centuries.
He had also represented South Africa in 181 ODIs and 44 T20Is.
Amla overall had played 346 matches for South Africa across all formats andhas 18,553 runs in his account along with 55 hundreds and 87 fifties.
He is the fastest ever batsman to reach 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000 and7000 runs in ODIs. Recently, he reached yet another milestone when hecompleted 8000 ODI runs during World Cup 2019 became the second fastest todo so in just 176 innings.
The right-handed batsman is the fourth batter in the world to score an ODIcentury against all Test-playing nations.
Earlier, South Africa’s fast bowler Dale Steyn also announced hisretirement from test cricket. AB De Villiers also took retirement from allformats of the game recently in 2018.
