Pakistan decided to open major border terminals along Afghanistan frontier

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has decided to open major border terminals on theAfghanistan frontier amid presidential elections after receiving a requestfrom its neighbor.

According to a press release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistanreceived request from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defence on very shortnotice for border facilitation and opening of border crossings duringAfghan Presidential elections scheduled on September 28.

Pakistan, the press release said has therefore, decided to open thecrossing so that Afghan citizen across Pakistan Afghanistan border, areable to exercise their right to vote during presidential election inAfghanistan. “In spite of security issues along border, Pakistan willcontinue to support its Afghan brothers,” the statement said.

On September 26, Pakistan had announced the closure of all passage way andcargo terminals of Pak-Afghan border on September 27 and September 28.

“In view of the upcoming presidential election and in support of domestictransition in Afghanistan, it has been decided to enhance security alongPak-Afghan border,” the FO statement read.
