Round Table Conference on Occupied Kashmir held by Pakistani embassy in Nepal

ISLAMABAD – Participants of a Roundtable Discussion on Kashmir inKathmandu, Nepal, have called for resolution of the long-standing disputeof Kashmir for lasting peace in South Asia.

About thirty writers and analysts as well as representatives of humanrights organizations participated in the discussion titled “RecentDevelopments in Jammu Kashmir: Human Rights Dimension,” which was organizedby the Embassy of Pakistan, Kathmandu.

The speakers said the unresolved nature of the dispute has impededdevelopment and economic uplift of South Asia.

They expressed serious concern over the worsening human rights situation inoccupied Kashmir, especially communication blackout, use of pellet guns,torture, arbitrary detentions and continued curfew for 52 days.

Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan’s Ambassador Mazhar Javed urged India tolift the curfew and other restrictions in occupied Kashmir.

Referring to serious concerns expressed by Human Rights Watch and AmnestyInternational, he called upon India to respect the human rights of thepeople of occupied Kashmir.
