Pakistan Foreign Office warns India

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria says India will have to face consequences if it violates the Indus Waters Treaty.

Talking to Radio Pakistan's News and Current Affairs Channel today, he said the treaty provides a comprehensive mechanism for dealing with any violations.

The Spokesperson said World Bank is the guarantor of the agreement, and India cannot unilaterally withdraw from it.

He said action can be taken against India for any violations under international law as well because low riparian countries have their rights on water.

To a question, Nafees Zakaria said targeting of innocent civilians in the ceasefire violations along the Line of Control is being highlighted at international forums.

He said the heads of the missions of the five UN Security Council permanent members in Islamabad were briefed on the LoC situation today. The matter was raised at the United Nations forum as well.
