Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar first address

KARACHI (APP): Newly elected Mayor of Karachi, Wasim Akhtar, Tuesday called upon all stakeholders to join hands for the progress of the metropolis.
"It is my request to all political leaders and their parties to work collectively for the development of Karachi" setting aside differences, he said in his address after taking oath as Karachi's Mayor here at Polo Ground.
Wasim Akhtar assured that the problems of the city would be resolved. "We have worked in the past. This time, in fact, we have greater spirit," Wasim Akhtar said, who was brought from jail for the oath taking ceremoney.
He expressed the hope that the Sindh government would cooperate with him to resolve the issues of the city.
He wanted to meet Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to discuss the problems of the metropolis, he said adding that the Chief Minister was already well aware of the problems, as he was also working hard for the betterment of the province.
The mayor thanked the people of Karachi for electing members of different political parties in local bodies and that these elected members expressed their confidence in him.
Wasim Akhtar urged all the elected members of local bodies to work together and with dedication to resolve the issues of the city.
He said, "Our existence depends on Pakistan, if it exists, we exist."
Wasim Akhtar said he had decided to move the court for bail after taking oath as a mayor. "I am hopeful that I will get justice from the court and will be released," he added.
