PCB Chairman reacts on resignation of Chief Selector Inzamam ul Huq

In response to Inzamam ul Haq’s resignation as the chief selector, ZakaAshraf, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Management Committee,has expressed that Inzamam’s decision was made unilaterally, without priordiscussion. Ashraf revealed in a statement that he had not met with Inzamambefore his resignation and had planned a meeting to seek clarificationregarding the ongoing controversy.

However, instead of meeting and providing his clarification, Inzamam choseto resign, according to Ashraf. The controversy surrounding Inzamam centerson allegations of his holding shares in a company owned by players’ agentTalha Rehmani, as reported in the media.

This revelation has raised concerns about potential conflicts of interestsince Rehmani represents several of Pakistan’s top cricketers, includingBabar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Questions have arisen regarding whether Inzamam’s dual role as chiefselector and a shareholder in a company that represents leading cricketersmight influence player selection decisions. Inzamam was appointed as thechairman of the national men’s committee on August 7 and took up the roleof chairman of the junior men’s selection committee earlier this month.

Inzamam expressed his intention to step down from the post to offer the PCBthe opportunity to conduct a transparent inquiry into the conflict ofinterest allegations raised in the media.

He stated that if the committee finds him not guilty, he will resume hisrole as the chief selector. The PCB, in an official statement, acknowledgedInzamam’s decision to voluntarily step down during the course of theinvestigation.
