RAHIM YAR KHAN: Death toll rises further in Pakistan Railways train deadlyaccident.
73 passengers were killed and more than 40 others were critical injured onThursday when three carriages of a Tezgam Express caught fire due toexplosion in gas canisters purportedly used by Tableeghi Jamaat passengersnear Liaquatpur area of Rahim Yar Khan.
The Tezgam was way to Rawalpindi from Karachi. Television footage showedflames pouring out of the carriages as people could be heard crying in theincident. Many commuters died and several were injured when they jumpedfrom the moving train to escape the flames.
Emergency has been declared in all hospitals of the district. The woundedwere rushed to hospitals in the nearby city of Bahawalpur and elsewhere inRahim Yar Khan district.
At least 12 of the injured persons are in critical condition, whereas 18dead bodies could not have been identified. Women and children are alsoamongst the victims. Many of the dead and injured were shifted to DHQHospital in Liaqatpur.
