The Caretaker administration of Pakistan has formulated a relief strategyin response to widespread demonstrations across the nation, which weretriggered by outrage over excessively high electricity bills. Theseprotests have drawn participants from all walks of life, spanning fromKarachi to Khyber.
Insiders familiar with the situation have revealed that Pakistan hasformally presented this plan to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), witha written request for a relief package amounting to Rs250 billion intendedto alleviate the burden of electricity costs on the populace.
The relief plan primarily focuses on individuals who consume up to 400units of electricity per month, as stated by the aforementioned sources.One of the key suggestions put forth by Pakistan involves rescinding therecent Rs7 per unit tariff hike in electricity charges, with a proposedgradual implementation strategy.
Furthermore, Pakistan has approached the IMF for approval to extendinstallment facilities to electricity consumers, with the Finance Ministryoffering written assurances to the international lender regarding thecollection of bills for the months of August and September.
