Pakistan-US ties should be based on mutual respect: Analysts

Experts and analysts have opined that Pak-US relations should be based on national interest and mutual respect to the benefit of two countries.

President Pak-American Democratic Forum Dr Ashraf Toor from the US said Pakistan has conveyed a strong message to the United States and rest of the world that it has already done enough against terrorism and now it is time for them to do more.

Senior analyst Dr Farhat Haq, from the US state of Illinois, said the visit of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Joseph Dunford to Pakistan would be vital to future relations between Pakistan and the United States.

Expert on International Affairs Dr Huma Baqai said Prime Minister Imran Khan has already clarified that Pakistan wants good relations with United States but national interests will never be compromised. She said Pakistan is always ready to play its role for Afghan peace as it is in its own national interests.

Senior analyst Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal said the United States needs to realize that it is also in its national interest to build strong relations with Pakistan.

Defence Analyst retired Lt Gen Raza Muhammad Khan said the US Policy for South Asia has already been rejected by Pakistan.
