ECP investigating reasons for failure of RTS system

ISLAMABAD – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was finalizing thereasons of failure of RTS (Results Transmission System) on July 25(Election-2018).

An official of ECP said that, it is an international practice that anysystem been introduce is practiced before launching but due to shortage oftime RTS could not be tested.

He also said that it was the demand of parliamentarians to launch andpractice RTS in election 2018. Now ECP was analyzing the reasons behindfailure of RTS and share the findings with the media.

The official added: “For the first time an online system to share resultsfrom 85,000 polling stations around the country to the central headquartersin Election Commission of Pakistan was introduced.”

The commission, he said, was investigating those complaints where resultson a piece of plain paper were released instead of the ECP’s-issuedForm-45. Sufficient copies of the forms were available with the commission,he added.

Earlier, ECP had rejected demand of some political parties for resignationof the Chief Election Commissioner.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad, Secretary Election CommissionBabar Yaqoob said that all parties were provided level playing field andthat foreign observers also termed general elections 2018 were free andfair.

He urged the candidates to pursue legal framework for their grievances.

Babar Yaqoob said at the instance of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s the ECPrequested the National Accountability Bureau not to arrest politicalleaders till polls. – APP
