Increasing the burden of inflation on consumers, National Electric PowerRegulatory Authority (Nepra) Tuesday gave approval to increase electricitytariff price by Rs3.99.
The recommendation was to increase by Rs8 per unit from July 1 this yearbut Nepra increased Rs3.99 per tariff power tariff increase.
The government has started taking ‘difficult decisions’ adhering to theInternational Monetary Fund (IMF) demands to end the subsidies on fuel,electricity and food items for the release of $1 billion loan tranche.
Pertinent to note that the prices of fuel have already been jacked up byRs30 per litre in line with the international lender’s demand.
