Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) at a meetingin Islamabad on Monday approved four road infrastructure projects forPunjab valuing one hundred and thirty billion rupees.
In a tweet on Monday, Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar saidthe road projects include Kamalia-Shorkot-Chowk Azam-Layyah;Hasilpur-Bahawalnagar; Vehari-Pakpattan-Debalpur and Shorkot-Jhang.
The meeting approved K-4 project based on new design at a cost of onehundred and twenty-six billion rupees. He said twenty-six crore gallons ofwater will reach Karachi by October next year. He said the federalgovernment has fulfilled yet another promise under Karachi’s TransformationPlan.
The ECNEC also approved a ninety-six billion rupees project of clean waterand sanitation for the rural areas of sixteen tehsils of South Punjab.
Asad Umar said the ECNEC also approved Rawalpindi-Kharian motorway to beconstructed under Public Private Partnership.
He said the project will be completed at a cost of thirty billion rupees inthirty months.
Commenting on the approval of the project, Minister for Information andBroadcasting Chaudhary Fawad Hussain, in a tweet, said this project willusher in a new era of development in North and Central Punjab. He saidforty two constituencies of National Assembly will benefit from it. Hesaid this project will reduce by one hundred kilometers the distancebetween Islamabad and Lahore.
