Pakistan Iran to enhance joint border patrolling

TEHRAN – The consensus was reached during a regular border meeting betweenthe delegations of Iran and Pakistan at Taftan border, local media reportedon Wednesday.

Pakistan’s side was headed by Chagai Deputy Commissioner Imran IbrahimBangulzai, while Mirjaveh District Administrator Ibrahim Jannatirepresented the Iranian side.

The Iranian side informed the Pakistani hosts that the Zero Point Gateborder check post at Taftan will reopen once fencing is complete.

It was agreed by the civil and paramilitary officials from both sides toenhance joint patrolling on Pak-Iran border to avoid any outsideinterference.

In the two-hour long meeting, border control measures, particularly curbingdrugs and human trafficking, were discussed thoroughly.

Iranian officials also demanded handing over of those Iran’s citizenssuspected of committing criminal activities from Pakistan.

In a relevant development in early December, Iranian and Pakistaniofficials in a meeting in Karachi underlined the need for broadening mutualcooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting in Karachi, Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan MehdiHonardoust and Governor of Southern Sindh Province Muhammad Zubair exploredavenues for bolstering and reinvigorating bilateral relations in trade andeconomic fields.

“People of Pakistan and Iran are closely linked to each other throughcenturies old relationship based on common religious beliefs and culturalnorms,” Zubair said during the meeting.

“Karachi is the economic hub of Pakistan and restoration of peace hasrevived the potential it holds as a major port city in the region,” headded.

Zubair invited Iranian investors to take advantage of the economicopportunities in the province that will serve both the sides.

Honardoust, for his part, said Iran will continue its support for thedevelopment of Sindh province.
