LAHORE: (APP) Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) Chairman and IT University (ITU) Lahore Vice Chancellor Dr Umar Saif has been invited by White House to participate in 2016 Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) to be held at the Stanford University, Silicon Valley California USA from June 22 to 24 2016.
The PITB spokesman said here Saturday that Pakistan got representation first time in the GES that would also be addressed among others by the US President Barak Obama.
The invitation letter issued by the White House on May 27, describes the criteria to select Pakistan among a few countries across the globe those have demonstrated track record of promoting entrepreneurship; have a concrete plan for future support of the country's entrepreneurial ecosystem; have ability to announce a new government initiative; programme or regulation that supports the country's entrepreneurial ecosystem at GES; and have a commitment to providing information for an implementation report released at GES 2017, he added.
The spokesman said that Dr Umar Saif had won a number of world titles but he showed the utmost enthusiasm when last year he was awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz on virtue of his remarkable services for Pakistan in the field of technology.
"Dr Umar Saif is a patriotic Pakistani who loves reciting poetry of Iqbal and Faiz," he mentioned.
Meanwhile, on winning this honour for Pakistan, Dr Umar Saif said that he was thankful to his almighty Allah that the work of the PITB and ITU was being recognised globally.
He said, "The main driving force behind our IT initiatives is the Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, who always extended his generous support for the e-governance projects in Punjab. Our work is now being replicated by other provinces and even countries like Albania and Romania. We have established the largest and first Start-up Incubator-Plan9 in Pakistan that is being replicated by other universities and colleges in Pakistan now. PlanX and the Tech Hub Connect are other state of the art projects that are equally supporting entrepreneurs in Pakistan. The Plan9 incubated companieshave won international rapport and fetching reasonable foreign investment to Pakistan."
Dr Saif assured that he would work hard to make Pakistan stand among the list of developed countries.
