ISLAMABAD: (APP) The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Thursday conditionally allowed a plea moved by Bol TV channel management to change its name to "Pak News" subject to final decision of instant writ petition.
A single judge bench of Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui passed the directions and remarked that "prima facie, there was no lawful justification to bar any channel to change its name once that channel has been issued a valid license by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).
During the course of proceedings, Ali Shah Gillani counsel for PEMRA requested the bench for short adjournment for filing para-wise comments in the case as there was any legal hurdle to allow petitioner to change the name of its Channel from "Bol TV" to "Pak News".
However the court allowed the counsel to file the para-wise comments within a fortnight and simultaneously directing the respondent to allow the petitioner to change name of its channel subject to final decision of the case.
