ISLAMABAD: (APP) APHC Leaders react to statement of UN Peace Commission Chairman

The All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, and General Secretary, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, have said that the Kashmir dispute should be resolved in its historical perspective keeping in view the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

According to KMS, Ali Gilani and Shabbir Ahmad Shah criticized the recent statement of UN Peace Building Commission Chairman, Macharia Kamau, that the Kashmir dispute "will be resolved in the context of the local domestic political environment between Pakistan and India".

The APHC Chairman in a statement issued in Srinagar termed Kamau's remarks as ambiguous, saying that respecting the wishes and sacrifices of Kashmiri people was more important than the political and local situations.

Ignoring the views of Kashmiris will be the murder of justice, he said.

Ali Gilani said that instead of finding any solution in context of the local, domestic, and political environment between India and Pakistan, Kashmir dispute should be resolved in its historical perspective and in context of its ground situation.

"Kamau's statement reflects double standard of the UN and also negates the basic purpose and responsibilities of this world institution. Kashmir is the oldest-pending dispute in the UN waiting resolution for the last seven decades. He should know that Kashmir dispute is the biggest hurdle in establishing peace in South Asia and has caused huge loss of precious human lives in India and Pakistan due to the wars fought by the two countries," he added.

The APHC Chairman said that if UN failed in playing any significant role vis-…vis Kashmir, it would put a big question mark over the credibility and importance of this World Body.

Shabbir Ahmed Shah in a statement in Srinagar termed the assertion of Macharia Kamau as unrealistic. He said that Kashmir was not a bilateral or a border dispute between Pakistan and India but an issue pertaining to the right to self determination of more than 13 million Kashmiris.

The APHC General Secretary said, "Macharia Kamau must read the history of Jammu and Kashmir and the resolutions that lie pending in the UN Security Council. He must initiate sincere efforts in finding resolution to the issues concerning the freedom of subjugated nations," he added.
