ISLAMABAD: In a thinly-veiled attack on Pakistan, Taliban co-founder andDeputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradarwarned that Afghanistan neither forgets nor forgives those who violate itssovereignty. Speaking at a graduation parade of Afghan National Army cadetsin Kabul, he described Pakistan as the “dishonorable enemy” that continuesto underestimate Afghan resolve.
Baradar declared that every aggressor must understand Afghanistan possessesboth memory and the means for precise calculations. His remarks, deliveredwith measured intensity, evoked the decades of alleged interference byPakistani intelligence agencies in Afghan affairs and the personalsuffering endured by Taliban leaders.
The Deputy Prime Minister revealed that he himself spent nearly ten yearsin Pakistani custody, subjected to severe torture and inhumane conditions.His imprisonment from 2010 to 2018 has long been cited by the Taliban asevidence of Islamabad’s hostility toward the Afghan resistance movement.
Analysts interpret the statement as the strongest public rebuke from asenior Taliban figure since the August 2021 takeover. It coincides withrenewed border clashes and mutual accusations over sheltering militantgroups, particularly the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Diplomatic circles in Islamabad expressed concern that Baradar’s unusuallydirect language could further strain already fragile bilateral relations.Pakistan maintains that it seeks peaceful neighbourly ties and hasfacilitated multiple rounds of dialogue with the Afghan Taliban government.
