WASHINGTON: Deputy Spokesperson, US State Department Robert Palladino, hasstressed the need for Islamabad to build confidence in bilateral relations.
Speaking to reporters in Washington, Palladino emphasized the need forPakistan to deliver outcome and build confidence and trust between our twocountries, and “our policy towards Pakistan is clear.”
He hailed Pakistan decision of opening Kartarpur corridor, terming it a bigstep towards confidence building between India and Pakistan.
He said Pakistan’s efforts to increase contact between peoples of the twocountries are commendable.
Palladino said normalization of relations between Pakistan and India isvital to both countries and the region.
“I’m aware of reports on this Kartarpur corridor. I understand that it’skind of a visa-free way for Indians to visit this important Sikh site. Andof course, the United States would welcome efforts to increasepeople-to-people ties between India and Pakistan,” State Department deputyspokesman Robert Palladino told reporters.
Palladino was responding to questions on the construction of themuch-awaited corridor that will connect Darbar Sahib in Pakistan’sKartarpur — the final resting place of Sikh faith’s founder Guru Nanak Dev— with Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district and facilitatevisa-free movement of pilgrims.
