*ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the European Union have reiterated their resolveto jointly combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.*
The understanding came at the seventh round of Pakistan-EU PoliticalCounter-Terrorism dialogue in Brussels. Pakistani side was led by DirectorGeneral Counter Terrorism Ahmad Farooq and the EU side by its Director forSecurity Policy Pawel Herczynski.
They stressed for a comprehensive approach to terrorism, based on the ruleof law and protection of human rights and for enhancing cooperation indealing with violent extremism in all its aspects, including preventing andcountering radicalisation and addressing the root causes. The partiesfurthermore underlined their joint commitment to regional peace andstability.
The EU side appreciated Pakistan’s increasing efforts in fighting terrorismand emphasised the need for increased engagement on preventing andcountering radicalisation.
Both sides underlined the importance of interfaith dialogue and harmony asa key to promote tolerance and social cohesion in the society.
They reaffirmed their support for the implementation of the United NationsGlobal Counter-Terrorism Strategy in a balanced and integrated manner.
The EU and Pakistan agreed that the next meeting of the dialogue would takeplace in Islamabad in 2019.
