KARACHI – Foreign delegates, diplomats and defence analysts were stunnedwith the state of the art Pakistan armed surveillance drone revealed at theInternational defence expo.
As per media report, Pakistan introduced a new multi-role drone on thesecond day of 10th International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS2018) in Karachi on Wednesday.
Built by Global Industrial and Defence Solution (GIDS)link, ‘Shahpar’ is capable of flying at thealtitude of 17,000 feet for up to 7 hours.
GIDS describes Shahpar as a medium range tactical UAV System withautonomous take-off and landing. It can carry various types of payloadsintegrated for reconnaissance and day and night surveillance. Otherfeatures include accurate lateral, longitudinal trajectory control, missionplanning, management and control, geo referencing and geo pointing forterrestrial targets.
Despite, the ordinary look of the drone, the UAV boasts several cameras andcan see up to a radius of 250 kilometres and can operate in any weather.
The drone was introduced by Vice Chief of Naval Staff Kaleem Shaukat at thedefence conference.
The four-day defence exhibition, which commenced on November 27, saw almost262 high-level delegations from 51 different countries in attendance. Theexhibition is expected to continue till November 30.
Organised under the aegis of Defence Export Promotion Organisation (DEPO),IDEAS 2018 brings together defence industry players from different parts ofthe world.
Besides, Pakistan itself other major exporters of defence technologyincluding China, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Jordan,Poland, Russia, South Korea, Turkey, UAE, Ukraine, USA will have theirexclusive country pavilions.
