Pakistan gets censured by top international body: Report

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan gets censured by top international body over billabonghuman rights violations.

Amnesty International has censured Pakistan’s government for its failure toprotect people from “exposure to hazardous air” and “risking and violatinghuman rights to life and health”.

In a statementlink issuedon Wednesday, the organisation noted that the Air Quality Index (AQI) inLahore had reached 484 at 10:00am PST today. “The threshold for ‘hazardous’level of air quality is 300 where people are advised to ‘avoid all physicalactivity outdoors’.”

Amnesty said the levels of air quality in Punjab have fluctuated betweennear unhealthy and very unhealthy most of the year. “During the smog season– from October to January – air quality reaches hazardous levels.”

The data was collated by Pakistan Air Quality Initiative from monitorsinstalled by the United States Consulate in Lahore and the crowd-sourced.
