In Ahmedabad, the Gujarat police have filed a First Information Report(FIR) against Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the leader of the bannedorganization Sikhs for Justice (SFJ). He is accused of threatening to turnthe Cricket World Cup, scheduled to start on October 5 at Narendra Modistadium, into a “World Terror Cup.” The FIR states that people across thecountry received Pannun’s threat through a pre-recorded voice message froma foreign phone number, +447418343648.
The message in the FIR mentions that October 5 would not mark the beginningof the Cricket World Cup but the start of the “World Terror Cup,” withSikhs for Justice intending to display Khalistani flags in Ahmedabad.Pannun’s message also refers to seeking revenge for the assassination ofShaheed Nijjar, advocating the use of ballots over bullets and votes overviolence.
The FIR points out that Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is designated as aterrorist by the Government of India and operates Sikhs for Justice from aforeign country. He is accused of spreading fear, inciting enmity betweenSikhs and other communities, and engaging in terrorist activities in India,including on social media platforms. The Cricket World Cup 2023 is set tocommence at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi stadium on October 5.
