Supreme Court suspends former CCPO Lahore Amin Wains, former SSP CIA Umer Virk

ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court suspended former Lahore CCPO Amin Wains andformer SSP CIA Lahore (now Inspector) Umar Virk.

SC directed the Punjab IGP to initiate departmental action against them inthe light of the findings of an inquiry committee for forcing a widow toreach a settlement regarding precious properties.

Both Wains and Virk were accused of using their influence to make twowidows of a famous super store’s owner and alleged investors in thebusiness to reach a ‘settlement’. Chief Justice Nisar had ordered aninquiry into the matter wherein the officers were found guilty of abuse ofpower.

Former IGP Punjab Kaleem Imam, now IGP Sindh, submitted the report before atwo-judge bench and stated that the officers were found guilty ofmisconduct. He said the inquiry had recommended departmental action againstthem.

The Chief Justice Nisar asked how the police got involved in a case thatwas between unrelated claimants. The report revealed that justice (retd)Hamid Ali Shah of the Lahore High Court also acted as arbitrator to settlethe matter.

At this, the chief justice summoned the retired judge and warned him tostay away from the matter in future.
