ISLAMABAD – Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information FirdousAshiq Awan says the Federal Cabinet has discussed matters relating toimproving the lives of common people including providing free legal aid tothe underprivileged prisoners languishing in jails.
She was briefing media on Cabinet meeting held in Islamabad on Tuesdayunder the chair of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
She said the Prime Minister has directed the ministries to give proposalsfor facilitating the common people.
Firdous Ashiq Awan said that prime minister, has also formed a committeefor improving conditions in jails and collecting data of destituteprisoners including juvenile prisoners languishing in jails.
She said the committee will give recommendations for jail reforms agendaand the government will provide free legal assistance to such prisoners.She said the government will finalize the jail reforms in collaborationwith the provincial governments.
She said that cabinet appreciated Chief Justice of Pakistan’s effortstowards clearing the backlog of cases in the Supreme Court and desired thatit will be replicated in the lower judiciary as well. She said that thecabinet also appreciated the Chief Justice for establishing Model Courts.
The Special Assistant to Prime Minister said that the cabinet also gaveapproval for establishing of National Road Safety to reduce accidents onhighways and improve travelling on Highways and Motorways.
She said that the cabinet approved establishing of National Commission forProtection of Children Rights.
She said that the cabinet also approved separation of services andregulation departments in the Civil Aviation Authority and decided toimprove facilities at the airports.
She said that the Cabinet has decided to take immediate measures for thepeople affected by recent heavy rains in Karachi and Hyderabad.
Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the cabinet also expressed commitment tocontinue efforts to widen the tax net and appreciated the measures taken bythe Federal Board of Revenue in this regard.
To a question she said that JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman is fulfillinghis personal agenda in the garb of religion.
She said Madrassah reforms are being introduced to impart modern educationalong with religious education to the seminary students.
She said that Prime Minister took strict notice of the increase in price ofbread and directed to raise the issue in ECC meeting. He directed that thegovernment is taking special measures to reverse the price of bread keepingin view the factors responsible for the increase.
The Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcastingsaid the Cabinet offered Fateha for the martyrs who embraced Shahadat interrorist incidents in Waziristan and Balochistan and today’s plane crashin Rawalpindi.
