Former Balochistan finance Secretary, Adviser granted bail in corruption scam

QUETTA – Former Balochistan finance secretary Mushtaq Raisani and formerfinance adviser to chief minister Balochistan, Mir Khalid Langove weregranted bail by the Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Monday.

The provincial high court granted bail after ordering the accused to submitRs5 million each for the mega corruption scandal that had jolted theprovince two years back.

In May 2016, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) raided Raisani’soffice and formally arrested him. They also raided his residence andconfiscated Rs730 million in cash and jewellery worth nearly Rs40 million.Further investigations revealed that the finance secretary also possessedvaluable illegal properties in Karachi’s upscale neighbourhood – DefenceHousing Authority.

Several others, including Langove, were also arrested by the accountabilitywatchdog as the scope of investigations expanded.

Chairman NAB Justice (retired) Javed Iqbal had recently handed over thedocuments and keys recovered from Raisani to interim Balochistan ChiefMinister Alauddin Marri during a ceremony held at the bureau’s provincialheadquarters.

During the ceremony, Justice (retd) Iqbal said that assets worth Rs650million were recovered during a raid from Raisani’s home. The assetsincluded foreign currencies, prize bonds, and jewellery among other things.

Documents of cars recovered from the former Balochistan finance secretary’sDHA residence in Karachi were formally transferred to the provincialgovernment as well.

However, the duo secured bail after spending almost two years behind bars.
