*LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly here on Tuesday passed the Punjab LocalGovernment Bill 2019.*
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the ruling party in Punjab presented thedraft for new local bodies’ system in the provincial assembly. Theprovincial assembly also passed Punjab Panchayat and Neighborhood CouncilAct 2019.
On April 19, Punjab’s cabinet meeting had approved the Local GovernmentAct-2019 link andWater Act-2019.
The decisions had been taken during a provincial cabinet meeting with ChiefMinister Sardar Usman Buzdar at his office in Lahore. Presiding over themeeting, CM Buzdar had said that the government had been committed toempower the local bodies of the province.

Earlier, Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Local GovernmentMuhammad Basharat Raja had said that the Punjab government had beencommitted to empower the local bodies of province by enacting a newpowerful law in coming days.
“The draft for the local bodies system 2019 will be tabled in the houseafter passing through all legal channel”, he had said.
