Punjab government rejects Bahria Town Dam offer

ISLAMABAD – Turning down Bahria Town’s offer to build Dadhocha Dam, theGovernment of Punjab told Supreme Court (SC) that it will build the damitself by 2021.

The SC bench, headed by Judge Azmat Saeed, resumed the hearing on Tuesdayregarding the delayed construction of the dam. Representatives of thePunjab Irrigation Department told the bench that government’s technicalexperts had gone through Bahria Town’s proposal and raised a total of 108questions, local media reported.

The representatives told the bench that the government will itself carryout the court’s order and construct the dam at its original location. Thesecretary of the irrigation department told the apex court that the damwill be constructed within two and a half years.

After the provincial government’s assurance that the dam will be built inthe given time, the top court wrapped up the case. Bahria Town offered theprovincial government last year that it will build the dam in a jointventure with DHA.
