ISLAMABAD – Police in Islamabad Monday freed the United States secondsecretary, Chad Rex, who had been taken into custody after his car hit andinjured two motorcyclists.

The secretary was set free on the basis of diplomatic immunity afterwritten confirmation from the Foreign Office.

Meanwhile, the security officer of the US Embassy was Monday granted bail.Security officer Taimoor was arrested after he attacked police in a bid toget the US secretary released from custody.

On Monday, Secretariat police presented the security officer in the courtof Judicial Magistrate Jawad Adil. The court granted the security officerbail and ordered him to deposit surety bonds worth Rs 50,000.
