Former President Pervaiz Musharraf suffering from rare disease, details revealed

*KARACHI – Former President Pervaiz Musharraf is suffering from raredisease, details have been revealed by his doctors in the Supreme Court ofPakistan.*

He is suffering from amyloidosis, a rare disease caused by a build-up of anabnormal protein called amyloid in organs and tissues throughout the body.

According to the 78-year old former military ruler’s family, doctorsdiagnosed him with the condition six months ago at a hospital in Dubai.

The treatment of amyloidosis is not possible in Pakistan and that is why heis staying in Dubai, the family maintained.

Amyloidosis is a serious health problem that can lead to life-threateningorgan failure.

Amyloidosis can affect different organs in different people, and there aredifferent types of amyloid. Amyloidosis frequently affects the heart,kidneys, liver, spleen, nervous system and digestive tract.

In a human body, plasma cells stored in bones perform the importantfunction of making antibodies. However, a patient suffering fromamyloidosis starts releasing protein from his plasma cells because of whichantibodies called amyloid become dysfunctional and dangerous.
