Hafiz Saeed petition: LHC puts provincial, federal government on notice

LAHORE – The federal and provincial governments have been put on notice bythe Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday for creating hurdles in thehumanitarian activities of Hafiz Saeed’s banned outfit Jamaatud Dawa (JuD).

The directives were issued by LHC judge Ameenuddin Khan while hearing HafizSaeed’s petition.

The petitioner’s attorney AK Dogar argued that JuD had always taken part inphilanthropic activities but they were now being impeded due to “pressurefrom the US and India”. He said that obstructing any person or entity’swelfare work was unconstitutional and the government should be asked to notharass his client’s outfit and allow it to resume its philanthropicactivities.

The federal government’s attorney asked the court for some time to compileits answer. The request was granted by the court and the case was adjourneduntil April 27.
