ISLAMABAD – The United States has approved the sale of high-tech defencemissile systems to Japan.
Quoting the U.S. State Department, Japanese news agency Kyodo said thedefence deal, worth 2.15 billion dollars, includes two Aegis weaponssystems and related equipment.
It said Japan is planning to set the two Aegis Ashore missile defense inAkita and Yamaguchi prefectures by 2023 to counter North Korean missilethreat.
The State Department said the systems will enhance Japan’s capabilityagainst increasingly sophisticated ballistic missile threats and create anexpanded layered defense.
