Former Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) in Punjab, Chaudhry Sajid Mehmood, has made a significant announcement regarding his political affiliation. He revealed his decision to depart from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on a Sunday.
Chaudhry Sajid Mehmood, who had previously served as an MPA in Punjab, formally declared his departure from the PTI during a press conference. He reflected on his longstanding association with the party, noting that he had joined the PTI back in 2008 and had even participated in elections twice as a representative of the party.
During the press conference, Mehmood voiced strong condemnation for the riots that occurred on May 9, an incident that had a profound impact on Pakistani politics and garnered nationwide condemnation. He particularly emphasized the need for severe penalties for those individuals found to be involved in the May 9 riots.
Additionally, the former Punjab MPA expressed his disapproval of what he described as an 'anti-state narrative' espoused by PTI Chief Imran Khan. This narrative, in Mehmood's view, had negatively impacted the popularity of the political party.
Chaudhry Sajid Mehmood concluded his announcement by expressing a desire to seek forgiveness from PTI workers, as he found it untenable to remain within the political party given the prevailing narrative.
In a separate development, on October 16, the former federal minister Farrukh Habib had also revealed his decision to part ways with the PTI and join the IPP.
