ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Foreign Office strongly reacts over the US Middle East peace plan.Spokesperson of Foreign Office, Aisha Farooqui has said that Pakistan continues to support a just and lasting solution of the Palestinian issue.
In a statement, she said that Pakistan has seen the announcement of a Peace Plan for the Middle East by the United States.
“Pakistan has consistently supported a two-state solution, as enshrined in the relevant Security Council and General Assembly Resolutions,” the statement read.
“Pakistan continues to support a just and lasting solution of the Palestinian issue, through dialogue and negotiations, that leads to the realization of the legitimate rights of the Palestinians, including the right of self-determination,” the statement continued.
The spokesperson added that Pakistan calls for the establishment of a viable, independent and contiguous State of Palestine, on the basis of internationally-agreed parameters, the pre-1967 borders, and with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
US President Donald Trump on Tuesday proposed a long-awaited Palestine-Israel peace plan for resolution of decade long Middle East conflict.
The presented plan by Trump seeks to establish a disjointed Palestinian state largely surrounded by Israel, while giving Israel with most of what it has sought over decades of conflict.
The plan appears to have little chance of success due its promise to keep Jerusalem as Israel's undivided capital.
Trump also proposed an independent Palestinian state and the recognition of Israeli sovereignty over West Bank settlements.
